Profile: To service customers with installation of low-voltage type cabling, dial tone, basic switch programming and/or maintenance of communication networks at customer site meeting and meeting/exceeding customers’ expectations regarding craftsmanship, documentation and on-time delivery.
Essential Duties and Functions:
• Commute to various job sites
• Transport company-provided 6’ fiberglass ladder to job site
• Pull, install and repair all low-voltage type cabling such as voice, data, security, paging, coaxial, nurse-call systems, fiber optic, etc.
• Cross connect cables
• Perform fiber splicing and termination
• Terminate cable according to color codes
• Test for polarity and connectivity and repair
• Install racks and patch panels
• Set up computer rooms
• Act as Lead Technician for the project
• Implementation and repair of dial tone
• Perform basic switch programming
• Maintain communication networks
• Process paperwork accurately, neatly, and timely
• Maintain documentation of procedures and network information
Position Requirements:
• 2-3 years experience with voice and data cabling, copper and fiber optic installations, indoor/outdoor fiber and copper feeders, and troubleshooting copper problems including shorts and opens
• Ability to troubleshoot loss and bandwidth problems on single-mode and multimode fiber
• General knowledge of WAN and LAN topologies
• Valid US Wisconsin Drivers’ License in good standing and proof of automobile insurance
• Ability to read road maps and familiarity with customer-service area
• Excellent communication, customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ability to complete paperwork accurately, neatly and timely
• Maintain personal tools in good condition per company Tool List
• Adherence to technician uniform dress code including high-top leather/steel-toed work boots
• Ability and desire to perform job tasks in safe manner
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to terminate cable according to color codes
• Ability to frequently climb up/down ladder (minimum 6’) and perform extended overhead cabling/wiring from ladder
• Ability to grip, push, pull feed cable (up to 1200 pair) vertically into closets, horizontally in cable trays and between walls, ceilings and floors
• Ability to bend, lift and carry multiple spools or boxes of cable up to 50# unassisted on regular basis
• Ability to lift/push cable spools up to 150# assisted on regular basis
• Ability to bend, lift, twist, turn and crawl in/out of tight spaces such as desks, cubicles and ceilings
• Ability to work from ladders and lifts with arms extended above shoulder for extended periods of time.
• Ability to operate/work from scissor and boom lift
• Ability to climb in/out of and work in manholes
• Ability to load, unload and move materials up to 50# without assistance on regular basis
• Ability to load, unload and move materials greater than 50# with assistance.
• Ability to drive to job sites, to frequently get in/out of vehicle and to load/unload tools and material supplies
